Mari G. Ewell-Torres

Mari G. Ewell-Torres, 50, of New Chicago passed away January 24, 2024.  She was born March 13, 1973, in Hobart to Ken and Gale Ewell.

Mari married John Torres in 2005.  She was a teacher at the Horizon Academy in Merrillville working with first and second graders.  In her spare time Mari enjoyed crocheting and knitting.  She loved her family and friends dearly and will be missed greatly.

Mari is survived by her husband, John; father, Ken; sister, Kim (Todd) Stivers; mother-in-law, Mary Ann Torres; sister-in-law, Diane Torres-Young (Steve Miller); aunt, Irene (Joe) Rosas; uncle, Joe (Carolyn) Aguilar; three nephews, Jaren, TJ and Nathan; and one niece, Corinne; and her beloved pets, Gobby the cat, and dogs, Cubbie, Spencer, and Marley.

Mari was preceded in passing by her mother, Gale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

A visitation will take place from 2:00pm – 6:00pm Thursday, February 1 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana, with a funeral service to follow at 6:00pm.
