Maria Del Carmen Sandoval, age 67 of Portage, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 10:15 p.m. Carmen was born on June 2, 1949 in Drayton, North Dakota to the late Guillermo and Felicitas (Pena) Torres. She was a former Parishioner at St. John Bosco in Hammond for 25 years. While at St. John Bosco she made tamales for Our Lady of Guadalupe Society for 25 years, involved in the St. Vincent De Paul Society, Parish Life, a Eucharistic Minister, English Cursillo Group Team, lived her Cursillo in 1994, a member of the choir and a cantor. Carmen was then a parishioner at Nativity of Our Savior Church in Portage where she was involved in the Friends In Christ, made tamales with fellow parishioners for 9 years, a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Legion of Mary, the Nativity Fest and the English and Spanish Cursillo. Carmen is survived by her husband of over 41years, Ramiro, 3 children, Patricia (William) Ault, Miguel Sandoval and Victor (Xochitl) Sandoval. She has 7 grandchildren, Amelia Garcia, Cylise Elena, Karina Lynn, Sebastian, Quetzalli, Dalton and Bailey. Brothers include, William, Daniel and Angel (Cheryl) Torres along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Feliciano. She lived by the following motto, "All things are decided by God. He decides when we live and when we die. We have to put our Faith in Him and do the work that He has called us to do right up to when we pass on to our new eternal life." Carmen was a blessing to all who knew her. Her smile, her love for God, family and friends will never be forgotten. She was a remarkable woman. She will be sorely missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek Road, Portage, IN with Rev. Andrew J. Corona officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville.
