MARIAN JEANNE KURZDORFER, age 85, of Lake Station, passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, IN. Marian was a lifelong Lake Station resident and attended the Evangelical Covenant Church of Portage since she was a child. She was the church pianist for over 50 years and the junior kindergarten music teacher for almost 30 years. She was a gifted pianist and over the years she gave piano lessons to scores of local kids and even a few adults. Marian was a talented writer and a member of the Write-On Hoosiers writers club. Her biggest passions were her Lord, her family and her church. She was always there for her family with unconditional love and a tender and caring heart. Her family was the joy of her life. Marian will also be remembered for her cheerful disposition, her ready smile and the warm hospitality she offered to everyone.
Marian is survived by 2 sons, Steve Kurzdorfer of Merrillville and Richard Kurzdorfer of Lake Station and a daughter, Karen Kurzdorfer of Hobart, brother, Robert (Doris) Thorne of Lake Station. She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Kurzdorfer.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 12, 2012 at 11:00 am at Evangelical Covenant Church of Portage, 5051 Central Avenue, with Rev. Jim Smith and Rev. Michaile Broadnax officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage.
