Marie Ann (Hudson) Flick May 17, 1942 – August 29, 2026

Marie Ann (Hudson) Flick, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died peacefully surrounded by family on August 29, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on May 17, 1942, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Marie moved with her family to Hobart, Indiana, as a young girl, where she would go on to build a remarkable life filled with family, community, music, and adventure.

Marie graduated from Hobart High School in 1961, where she sang soprano in a cappella performances. That love of singing remained with her throughout her life. She shared her beautiful voice at weddings, funerals, installations, and countless other community events, bringing music and joy to the people around her. Her family will especially remember the joy she brought to birthdays, never missing an opportunity to call and sing “Happy Birthday” over the phone to the lucky recipient—a simple tradition that brought smiles and made each birthday feel a little more special.

In 1961, Marie married George Sam, Jr., and in October of 1962, she welcomed her son, Butch. Tragically, she was widowed just one month later. Though faced with an unimaginable loss so early in life, Marie continued forward with the strength and determination that would define her character for the rest of her life.

On June 20, 1967, Marie married the love of her life, Larry Flick. Together, they built a home and a family. In 1968, Marie adopted her three daughters, Robyn, Kelly, and Cindy, and that same year they built the home where their family would grow. Family was at the heart of Marie's life, and some of her happiest memories were made together, camping and spending time with her children and the people she loved.

Marie was also an accomplished and ambitious businesswoman. She earned her real estate license in 1968 and her broker's license in 1970. She went on to build a long and successful career with Lee's Inn, serving as manager of the Portage location and eventually as General Manager overseeing operations throughout Northern Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois. Her determination, leadership, and ability to bring people together made her a natural leader wherever she went.

Marie never believed in simply being a member of a community—she believed in making it better. Throughout her life, she served on numerous boards and organizations, always finding another way to contribute. Among her many community roles were serving on the Porter County Tourism Board, the Sea Ranch Civic Association, and the Water Board, where she served as president. She was also Treasurer of First United Presbyterian Church in Portage, an officer in the Red Hat Society, and an active member of the Eastern Star, where she served as both a chapter member and Star Point. Marie’s dedication to helping others extended well beyond her professional and community work. She was a lifelong blood donor, quietly giving of herself over the years to help others in need.

Marie also left her mark through her work developing the Sand Dollar West subdivision. She participated in the Jaycees and was involved with the Junior Miss Pageant as a very involved charter member, always embracing opportunities to connect with and contribute to her community.

After a long and successful career, Marie eventually retired from Century 21 and moved to Florida, where she enjoyed the sunshine, new friendships, and the many adventures that came with this next chapter of her life.

Marie had a style and spirit all her own. She always looked like a million bucks and was known for being impeccably fashionable. She loved adventure and had a particular fondness for her motorcycle and her red Corvette—two perfect reflections of a woman who was never afraid to live boldly and have a little fun along the way.

Marie was many things throughout her life: a businesswoman, leader, singer, volunteer, adventurer, and friend. But above all, she was a woman who loved her family fiercely, gave generously to her community, and lived life with determination, confidence, and style.

She leaves behind a legacy that can be seen not only in the family she raised and the people she loved, but also in the many communities she served and the countless lives she touched along the way.

Marie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Larry, her children, Robyn Flick (Scott Meyer), Butch (Tracy) Flick, Kelly Flick, Cindy (Tony) Trentini; her grandchildren, Ashley Richter, Tyler (Jackie) Richter, Samuel (Kami) Flick, Joshua Flick, Jeremy Flick, Nathan Flick, Austin (Shelby) Flick, Sophie Trentini, and Mack Trentini; her goddaughters, Christine Jamison and Tracy Hiddleson; her many nieces and nephews; her eight great-grandchildren; her three sisters, Linda Sieckman, Bettie Revor, and Janie Doane and her brother, Edward Hudson. She will also be fondly remembered by the many friends and members of the communities she called home throughout her life.

Visitation will be held at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana 46368, on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
