Marie C. Longacre (nee Sokit), age 89 of Crown Point/Hobart passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014. She was born on September 29, 1924 in Kulpmont, Pennsylvania to the late Anthony and Clara Sokit. She was a former resident of Tolleston. Marie was a homemaker and also worked for Sokit's Bakery and Savemore. During WWII she worked in a plant in Chicago that made carburetors. She was a member of St. Bridget Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post 454. Marie enjoyed fishing and bird watching.

She is survived by daughter, Marsha Shabi of Kouts, IN; son, Dave (Ann) Longacre of Hobart, IN; 5 grandchildren, Mike (Abby) Poe of Ellettesville,IN; Brian (Susan) Poe of Washington, MI; Shawn Longacre of Valparaiso, IN; Aaron (Kristin) Longacre of Hobart, IN; Rebecca (Dan) Libauskas of Portage, IN; 7 great-grandchildren, Adam, Lydia, Kristen, Allie, Layla, Shawn, and Anna.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Longacre, son-in-law, Jim Shabi, and granddaughter, Kelli Longacre.

Funeral services are Wednesday, July 23, 2014 beginning with 9:30 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart and proceeding to St. Bridget Church for a 10 a.m. mass of Christian burial with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. Visitation is Tuesday, July 22, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
