Mario R. Galindo, Jr., age 75, of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.

Mario was born on September 13, 1945 in Gary, IN to the late Mario Sr. and Petra (nee Hernandez) Galindo.   He was an Ironworker at US Steel for 37 years and retired in 2000.

Mario is survived by his 5 children: Michael (Tammy) Galindo, Amanda (Craig) Cortese, Brandon Galindo, Ryann (Kevin) Rietman, and Jacob Galindo; his siblings who called him Junior, brothers: Gilbert (Laura) Galindo and Jesse (Rita) Galindo; sisters: Margie (David) Bell, Mary Santos, and Gloria (Timothy) Kreischer; 5 grandchildren who called him Papa: Alexander Galindo, Adrianna Rietman, Rylin Rietman, Caralyn Cortese, and Amora Galindo.

Mario loved to cook and was known as the best cook in the family whether it be his pancakes or famous Ho-Ho cake. He also loved to garden and landscape.  He had a green thumb and could grow anything.  Mario loved his oldies but goodies namely Motown.  No one could beat him when came time to name that tune.  He loved singing Motown to his grandchildren.  He was a master at getting his children or grandchildren to sleep by singing "You Are My Sunshine".  He always did the daily crossword puzzle in the paper and would finish before his coffee was cold.  Mario was always on the hunt for the next hidden treasure.  Goodwill was his go-to place.  If he knew anyone of his grandchildren liked something, he would find it in every shape, size, and color. To his children, Dad will be known as the strongest man to ever live.

He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife: Carolyn Galindo and his brother: Casimiro Recio.
