MARION EDWARD "ED" BELADELA, age 89, of Hobart, passed away August 5, 2016, at Christ Advocate Hospital. Ed was born on March 3, 1927 in Gary, Indiana. Ed was in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and served our country proudly and well. He was a millwright at the Budd Plant and butcher at Merrilville Strack & Van Til. Ed had been a member of St Bridget Catholic Church in Hobart, the Gary Sportsman Club, Marie Reiner Senior Center, American Legion #454 and VFW.
Ed especially enjoyed making people happy playing his harmonica at Senior Centers, nursing homes and social events. He loved his cat "Little Buddy", enjoyed word search puzzles, gardening and in earlier days, fishing, camping with wife, family and friends.
Ed is survived by his son, David Beladela, Hobart; daughter, Audrey Beladela (Joszef Szabo) West Hills, CA; grandson, Barrett (Daniella) Bednarz, Chadsworth, CA; great granddaughter, Emma Bednarz; sister, Evelyn "Evie" Lahaie, Wanatah; sisters-in-law, Anna Geleta, Josephine "Josie" Maranto, Barbara (Jim) Shinovich; brother-in- law, Richard Vrtikapa, nieces, nephews and many other loving family and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Beladela; mother, Stella Evans (nee Sinicuska) and father, Nicholas Belladella and stepfather Ed Evans. Sisters Sophie (Joe) Wojihoski, Gina Beladela; brothers Walter Mikalagek, Joseph C. Nicholas, Robert Evans, Tom Evans.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11, 2016, beginning with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, and then proceeding to St. Bridget Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Dominic V. Bertino celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.
