MARJORIE E. KILANDER, age 89, of Hobart, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Porter Regional Hospital. Marjorie was born August 4, 1923 near Francesville, Indiana. She was the daughter of Lewis J. Topp and Rubia Rhinehart-Topp. Marjorie was a graduate of Francesville High School, class of 1940. On May 24, 1946 she married Harry M Kilander and moved to Hobart in 1955. She was employed in the offices of Master Weld of Hobart and Harvey's Mart in Lake Station. After retiring in 1989, she was able to dedicate her free time to genealogy. Marjorie was able to research ancestors and joined Meshowke-to-quah Hobart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of American Colonist Marion Chapter. She was a charter member of Tristam Coffin Chapter Colonial Dames XVII Century of Star City and the VFW Post #9323 Ladies Auxiliary of Lake Station. Marjorie held offices in all of these organizations. She was a past State Chairman for the Seimes Technology Center for Indiana DAR.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Roberta (Michael) Franz and son, Donald (Kim) Kilander, all of Portage, brother, Dale Topp, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 55 years, Harry Kilander, daughter, Lorna Huckabay and 3 brothers, Gerald, Wilbur and Wendell Topp.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 3, 2012 at 10 am at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart, with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Graveside committal will take place Monday at 1:00 pm E.S.T. at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville, Indiana. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 3-7 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 219-942-2109 or online www.ReesFuneralHomes.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family or the Porter County Community Foundation.
