Martha Collins, age 82, of Hobart, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at Brickyard Healthcare. She was born on July 7, 1943, to the late Glenn and Irene Collins (née Richman). Martha dedicated her life to education and touched the lives of countless students throughout her career. She taught for three years in California before joining the Merrillville Community School Corporation, where she remained a devoted educator until her retirement.Martha met the love of her life, the late Peter, and the two shared many cherished memories together throughout the years. Martha was a proud member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Beta Sigma Chapter. She had no children of her own but dearly loved her nieces and nephews and treasured the time she spent with her family. Martha enjoyed reading books, collecting dolls and Beanie Babies, and was especially talented at making dolls that resembled Cabbage Patch dolls for children at church and in her classrooms. During summer breaks from school, she and her fellow teacher friends traveled all over the world, including trips to China, England, and Australia. In her younger years, she enjoyed country line dancing and later cherished Saturday lunches spent with her nephew and his wife.
She is survived by her brother, Dennis Collins; nephew John; great nephews James, Glenn, and Jonathan; great nieces, Chante, Laura, Frances, and Andrea; niece-in-law, Linda Bolovich and other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vallie Ann Collins Bodlovich; nieces, Sue and Hellen; nephews, Mark and Danny; great-niece, Missy; niece-in-law Barbara; and the love of her life, Peter.
Martha will be remembered for her caring heart, dedication to education, creative spirit, and love for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation for Martha will be held Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home 600 West Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana 46342. Funeral services will also be held Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
