Mary J. Aleman, age 96, of Hobart passed away Sunday August 4, 2013 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Indiana. She was born November 10, 1916 in Swink, Colorado to the late Joseph and Suzanna Mendoza. She was a homemaker who loved doing crafts and cooking favorite dishes for her family. She enjoyed socializing at the Hobart Community Center for over 20 years.
Mary is survived by five of her children, Josephine Martinez of Chesterton, Irene (Angel) Ortiz of Portage, Paul (Kathy) Aleman of Valparaiso, Edward (Donna) Aleman of Portage, and Jennie (Hector) Ramierez of Lafayette; her four sisters Sophie Perez of Fishers, Helen Hernandez of San Diego, CA, Stella (Angel) Jimenez of East Chicago and Gloria Hernandez of Lakeside, CA; 20 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 22 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years Joaquin, her son Joaquin Aleman, Jr., two brothers Manuel Mendoza and Paul Mendoza, one sister Margaret Escabazeta, one grandson Edward Aleman, one great grandson Erik Martinez and two great great grandsons.
Funeral mass for Mary will begin with 9:30 am prayers at the funeral home and proceed to church at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Assumption BVM Church 3530 Illinois Street Hobart, IN 46342 with Father Lourdu Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Portage, IN. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-8 pm at Rees Funeral Home Hobart Chapel 600 W. Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana with a 4:30 pm prayer service.
