Mary Anderson, age 88, of Portage passed away Thursday June 27, 2013 at the Horton VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, Indiana. She was born February 28, 1925 in Granger, Texas and came to northwest Indiana in 1943. She married James R. Anderson in Gary, Indiana on June 25, 1949. She was a former employee of Jo Ann Fabrics, Sues Bakery and NIPSCO. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild. Mary was an avid bowler, bowling in the Young at Heart Bowling League for many years.

Mary is survived by her loving daughter Kathy (Joe) Minick of Portage, two grandchildren Christine Ford and Brian (Andrea) Minick, three great grandchildren Reese Ford, Ethan Minick and Grace Minick and a special friend Carolyn Kukral.

She was preceded in death by her husband James R. Anderson on May 27, 1997.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 11:00 am at Augustana Lutheran Church 207 Kelly Street, Hobart, IN 46342, with Rev. Charles R. Strietelmeier officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Portage, Indiana. Visitation will be Monday from 2-8 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana and one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday.

Memorial gifts are preferred to Augustana Lutheran Church or to the Porter County VNA Hospice Foundation in lieu of flowers.
