MARY CATHERINE BELT (nee LUCCHETTI), age 76, of Portage, passed away January 4, 2013. Mary was born in Chicago on January 13, 1936 to Arthur and Mildred Lucchetti. She was a loving wife and mother. Mary and Thomas were married on May 4, 1954 in Chicago and moved to Northwest Indiana to raise a family. She was known and loved by many due to working in the community at several local banks and most recently at Horizon in Portage. She was an avid VW enthusiast who could be seen regularly driving her yellow Bug "Tweety" around town. She will be missed by many.
Mary is survived by her husband of over 58 years, Thomas; daughters, Sharon (Rocky) Payne, Debbie Ashbaugh, Lisa (Jim ) Kurman; 6 grandchildren, Jami (Mike) Forster, Charlie Vukovich, Shawn Ashbaugh, Chris Ashbaugh, Ben Kurman and Josh Kurman.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert, her parents, three brothers and one great-granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m at Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church, 2949 Willowcreek, Portage, with Rev. Andrew Corona officiating. Visitation for Mary will be Monday, January 7, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Additional visitation will be Tuesday at Nativity of Our Savior from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
