Mary S. DeLeon, age 101, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 18, 2019. She was born October 8, 1917 in Guanajuato, Mexico to Arcardio and Estefana (nee Rocha) Barcenas. For thirty years Mary worked at Tiny Tots Diaper Service. She belonged to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Valparaiso, Indiana and was a member of St. Luke's Church in Gary, Indiana. Mary had a great sense of humor and loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She believed in the power of prayer for everyday life. In her free time she enjoyed reading. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Mary is survived by her son, Anthony A. (Vicki) Deleon; two grandsons, Anthony S. (Steffanie H.) Deleon and Shaun (Melissa) Simmons; granddaughter, Betty (Brian Trosper) Nickovich; six great-grandchildren Sophia Deleon, Michael, Ayden and Parker Simmons, Sara and Brien Rissman ; her nephews and nieces and all of these she loved and touched deeply.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joseph and Louis Barcenas and nephew, Frederick Barcenas.
Please join us celebrating her life Monday ,September 23, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial directly at Our Lady of Sorrows, 356 W 700 N, Valparaiso, Indiana 46385, with Rev. Paul Quanz officiating. Burial will be held at McCool Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 22 from 2:00-8:00 p.m., with a 4:30 p.m. Rosary service at Rees Funeral Home 5341 Central Ave., Portage, Indiana 46368.
