Mary J Levenda

Mary J. Levenda, age 88, a longtime resident of Lake Station, IN passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. She was born on June 7, 1921 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Charles and Zusi Hawrys. Mary was married to Victor Levenda on July 19, 1941 in Gary, IN. Mary worked as a clerk for Montgomery Ward in Gary, IN. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and was very active with the Ladies Sodality Society. She was a member of the Ladies Lions, the Lake Station Seniors, and the Lake Station Historical Society. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all. Mary is survived by her loving family; husband, Victor Levenda, Lake Station, IN; sons, Terry (Margo) Levenda, Portage, IN, Gerry (Pat) Levenda, Tinley Park, IL; daughter, Vicky Levenda, Lake Station, IN; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Levenda, Portage, IN and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Larry Levenda. A visitation for Mary Levenda will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart with a Prayer Service at 4:00 p.m. A morning visitation and prayers will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009 directly at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnum, Lake Station, IN with a celebration of Christian Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Father Eduardo Malagon and Father Robert Evers, officiating. Burial will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
