Mary Zemen (nee Greczi), age 90 of Portage passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016. She was born on December 23, 1925 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Janos and Rosalia Greczi. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier in Lake Station, Holy Trinity Hungarian Church in East Chicago, the American Hungarian Citizen Club, Elizabeth Circle, Kossuth Club, and the Holy Trinity Church Council. Mary loved cooking, baking, and enjoying her family.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann (David) Geske of Portage, IN; two grandsons, Jonathan (Erica) Geske, Frank Matolcsy, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren;one sister in law, Rose Bacsa of Hungary and dear friend and companion, Laszlo Hertelendy of Merrillville, IN and his family, Csaba, Zsolt, Attila, and Laszlo Jr.(Beata).
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph Zemen, two daughters, Rose (Bill) Darnell, Magda Zemen, and one brother, John (Rose) Greczi.
Funeral services are Saturday, August 20, 2016 beginning with 10:15 a.m. prayers at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. Portage and proceeding to St. Francis Xavier Church in Lake Station for a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage. Visitation is Friday, August 19, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 3 p.m. prayer vigil at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, Portage.
