Matthew Douglas Ames, age 28, a longtime Hobart resident, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026. He was born on May 14, 1998, in Munster, Indiana. Matthew loved fishing, video gaming, and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his father, Joel Douglas Ames of Hobart, IN; mother, Angela (Jason) Klee of Dyer, IN; one sister, Elizabeth Thomas of Harriman, TN; three uncles, Jeff, Scott, Mark, one aunt, Cindy, two nephews, Collin, and Caleb, one niece, Cailyn.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Nancy Ames, mamaw, Alberta Carroll, papaw, Jeff Carroll, and one great-nephew, Julian..

Public visitation is Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Funeral services will be private. (219) 942-2109. Casual dress is encouraged.
