MELVIN E. "Buck" CHANEY, age 90, of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 while at home. Melvin was born on June 29, 1922 and was raised at Mooseheart in Illinois. He was a longtime Hobart resident and retiree of Gary Hobart Water Corp. Melvin served his country as an engineer in the US Army during WWII. He was a charter member of the Hobart VFW Post #5365 and a member of the Saint Mary Medical Center Auxiliary for over 20 years. Melvin will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather and friend to all.
Melvin is survived by his son, Melvin E. Chaney, II of CA; 3 daughters, Sharon Kish of Hobart, Cheryl Shepitka of SC, and Jayme Rudd of FL; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 nieces, Jolee Shell and Janet Preble.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 42 years, Ruth (nee Jolliff) and 4 sisters, Betty, Orpha, Naomi, and Loraine.
In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Mooseheart.
A funeral service for Melvin will be Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart with Chaplain Jim Stoel officiating.
