Michael R. Cord (nee Gimenez), age 79, a resident of Valparaiso passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2012. He was born on January 24, 1933 in Gary, Indiana, the son of James and Maria Gimenez. He was married to Gloria Sullivan on June 22, 1968 in Gary. Michael was the owner of Best Realty and Cord Construction Company. He was a hard worker who could build anything. He loved woodworking, gardening, growing vegetables and canning. His greatest passion was canoeing and fishing in Mexico. He was a lifetime member of the Porter Gun Club, and the Tucson Trap Shooting Club. He was a member of Saint Helen's Catholic Church.

Michael is survived by his loving family; wife Gloria Cord, Valparaiso, daughters Michele Teal, Pueblo, Colorado, Dawn (Eli) Rodich, Valparaiso, Susan (Dan) Beluk, Newbury Port, Massachusetts, step-children Lori (George) Kucik, Crown Point, and Michael (Dama) McNary, Tucson, Arizona, grandchildren Heather Smith, Tyler Smith, William Ashton, Megan Baca, Christine Beluk, Mark Beluk, Molly Beluk, Angie (Eric) Vasquez, George (Maggie) Kucik, Kyle Kucik, Wesley McNary, and Carrie McNary, and other loving family and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Craig Cord, and his son Michael Cord.

A visitation for Michael Cord will be held from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 26, 2012, at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Morning viewing will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, directly at Saint Helen's Catholic Church, 302 North Madison Street, Hebron. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday at Saint Helen's, with Father Derrick Dudash, officiating. Burial will be at Mosier Cemetery.
