Michael W. Sukiennik, age 74, of Portage, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. He was born on September 1, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Michael and Bernice Sukiennik.

Mike was a proud 1970 graduate of Lane Technical High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He was passionate about politics and occasionally worked the polls for elections. He was self-employed as a tool salesman and retired in 2014. Mike was an amazing bass guitar player, and he enjoyed dancing the Polka with his wife at the Polish Festival.

He was an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan. Although he hated Chicago winters, he always looked forward to cheering on the Bears and especially enjoyed the arrival of spring, when he could finally open the windows and welcome the fresh air after a long winter.

On September 1, 2006, Mike married Christina in Chicago. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, Christina Sukiennik; his daughter, Jane Karr; grandsons, Henry and Ben Karr; stepdaughter, Nicole Gibbs; step-granddaughter, Feliciana Gibbs; and many loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Bernice Sukiennik, and his brother, Stephan Sukiennik.

A celebration of Mike's life will take place at a later date.
