Michael P. Beckham, age 74 of Portage, Indiana passed away October 12, 2025. Mike was born on October 8, 1951, to Bernard and Elizabeth Beckham. He proudly served as a military police officer in the United States Army for 2 years. On April 27, 1987, he married Nancy Kolbus in Las Vegas, Nevada. They enjoyed 38 ½ years of marriage. Mike worked at Bethlehem Steel, ISG, Arcelor Mittal and Cleveland Cliffs. (All the same mill but different companies purchased the mill.) Mike retired from the mill with 42 years of service. Mike was a member of the American Legion Post# 502 in the early years and later became a member of the American Legion Post# 260 in Portage. He was a member for over 40 years. Mike also enjoyed going and watching the White Sox baseball team and watching the Chicago Bears on TV. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, camping, turkey shoots at the America Legion Post #502, vegetable gardening and working on classic cars. He and his son, Michael, Jr. were always working on classic cars together, taking them apart and putting them back together again. Mike would always get around in his wheelchair and go past the neighbors' houses and up and down the driveway. He was always on the move. He always loved to talk to everyone. He got along with everyone he met. He loved to cook and to help cook for years until his health wouldn't let him anymore. He loved all the holidays, especially Christmas when he would change words to the Christmas songs. He also loved all the Beatles songs. He has made a long-lasting impression on everyone.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Beckham (nee Kolbus); son, Michael Beckham, Jr.; his mother, Elizabeth Beckham; daughter, Katie Beckham; grandson, Wyatt Blondin, one sister, two brothers and his beloved dog, Cujo, who misses him deeply; and several nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Mike was an adoptive grandparent to Keighlee Bilderback and Annabelle Prentice since they were born.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Bernard Beckham; brother, Stephen Beckham; aunt, Jean Holden-Beckham in Arizona; two dogs, Roxie and Loki; and several aunts and uncles.
A memorial service for Mike will take place Friday, October 24, 2025, at 7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until the time of service at the funeral home. For more information, please call (219) 762-3013.
