Mike Milan Zakula, age 88, of Portage and formerly of Kingman, AZ, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 3, 1926 in Gary, Indiana to the late Kosta and Mary Zakula. Mike was a member of St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church. He retired after 42 years of working as a Millwright for US Steel. Mike enjoyed the simple things in life and spent his free time working in the garage making furniture. He loved to golf. He will be sadly missed by family, kumovi and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Charlene (Elaine) Zakula; daughter, Michelle (Duane) McDonald; grandson, James Hammond; brother in law, Raymond Petriskey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kosta and Mary Zakula; brother, Peter Stevens. Memorial contributions in Mike's name may be made to St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, 9191 Mississippi Street, Merrillville, IN 46410.

A funeral service for Mike will take place Monday, March 2, 2015 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN 46342 with Rev. Father Marko Matic officiating. He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home with a Pomen prayer service at 4:00 pm.
