Mildred C. Anderson, age 87, a longtime resident of Portage passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011. She was born on February 11, 1924 in Indiana Harbor the daughter of Charles and Clara Miller. Millie was married to Ransom C. Anderson on November 15, 1941 in Hammond and they celebrated over 64 years of marriage. She worked as a bookkeeper for Walgreen's Drug Stores retiring in 1989 and also managed the Santa Storage Rental facility for over 31 years. Millie was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Lydia Circle, the Lutheran Women's Mission League. She loved to read, bake, play games, do crossword puzzles, play bunco, and crocheting.

Millie is survived by her loving family; daughter Marcia (Steve) Bellovary, Anaheim, CA, son Carl (Carol) Anderson, Portage, son Alan (Judy) Anderson, Portage, grandchildren Lisa (Joe) Calhoun, Kim (Bill) Nondorf, Debbie (Scott) Simpson, Keri (Kevin) Symons, Kristina Anderson, Michael Anderson, and Mark Anderson, 9 great-grandchildren, and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ransom Anderson, infant daughter Cynthia Rae Anderson, great grandson Christian Anderson-Calhoun, brother Carl Miller, brother Alan Miller, and her faithful companion Murphy.

A visitation for Mildred Anderson will be held from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 28, 2011 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 5402 U.S. Highway 6, Portage with Reverend Timothy Engel, officiating. Entombment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso. Memorials in Millie's memory may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
