Mildred H. Spearman, age 93, of Portage and formerly of Aetna passed away Monday 10/28/13 at Miller's Merry Manor in Portage. She was born September 22, 1920 in Grand Forks, ND to the late Ole and Thora (Moen) Hegland. Mildred was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a graduate of Trinity Hospital School of Nursing and was a former Registered Nurse. Mildred was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Mildred married James M. Spearman on January 12, 1943 in Havre, Montana.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents, one brother Earl Hegland, and two sisters Patricia Fitch and Shirley Bishop.
She is survived by her son James A. Spearman of Valparaiso; three daughters Kathleen Joyce Blackburn of Valparaiso, Gail Joanne Rodriguez of Terre Haute and Carol Ann Strom of Portage; one daughter-in-law Julie Byrd of Valparaiso; five grandchildren Kimberly Strom, Amy Rodriguez, Michael Rodriguez, Michelle Kujawa and Cheryl Blackburn; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 am Friday November 1, 2013 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 6795 Broadway Merrillville, Indiana with Rev. Jerry Moe officiating. Friends may visit with family from 10:00 am until time of the service at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
Memorial gifts are preferred to the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 6795 Broadway Merrillville, IN 46410 in lieu of flowers.
