Milford "Cappy" Caplinger, age 90, of Portage passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Cappy was born to the late Milford Henry and Ida Beatrice (nee Humberd) Caplinger on August 27, 1927, in Lincoln, Illinois. He married Patricia "Pat" Ruth (nee Rosser) on August 28, 1948 in Gary, Indiana. Cappy was a United States Navy Veteran, having served during World War II. He was a retiree of U.S. Steel and had been a resident of Portage for 55 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

Cappy is survived by his son, Dennis (Phyllis) Caplinger of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three daughters, Carol Bascue of Independence, Missouri, Sharon (Craig) Ingram of Westville, Indiana, and Sandi (Edward) Blastick of Valparaiso, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Wm. "Bill" Frederick Caplinger of Springfield, Missouri and sister, Jean Warren of Crown Point and many other loving family members and friends.

Cappy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Pat; his parents; three brothers, one sister; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service for Milford will take place Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage, Indiana 46368 with Pastor Jason Kegebein officiating.
