Millard L. Sturgell
age 88, of Portage passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011. He was born on September 25, 1922 in Kentucky to the late Marian and Dora Sturgell. Millard proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the Chinese Combat Command; he retired from the Utility Department at US Steel. He was a talented electrician with advanced training in electronics. Millard attended Real Life Community Church in Portage, and was a member of the American Legion Post 260 in Portage. He enjoyed the outdoors and was very fond of flowers and birds.
He is survived by his family, son; Dennis Sturgell of Francisville, Peggy Shykes of Alaska, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters; Francis Smith of Kentucky and Alice Pitino of Florida, many other loving family members, caregivers, friends and special friends; Robert and Vicki Gilmore.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marion Sturgell and his parents, brothers; Vincent and Glenn, sisters; Thelma Wright, Ruby Edwards, Opal and Audrey Sturgell.
Funeral services are Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Bob Burton of Real Life Community Church and Rev. Gregory Smith of United Methodist Church in Glendale, Kentucky at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave, Portage. Visitation is Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Millard honor can be made to the American Heart Association. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
