Modesto "Moe" Candelaria, Jr., age 61, of Deerfield Beach, FL, formerly of East Chicago and Gary, passed away December 5, 2017 in FL.  He was born on March 23, 1956 in East Chicago.  He retired as a Pipe Insulator for Local 17 after 40 years of service.  Moe loved watching sports, playing dominoes, and cooking on the grill.  He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, son, grandfather, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his parents, Modesto and Encarnacion "Conchita" Candelaria; 2 children, Modesto Candelaria, III, Deerfield Beach, FL, Camellia Candelaria, Gary; grandchildren, Davante, Anthony, Cherry, Kashmonae and Modesto IV; great grandson, Davante, Jr.; sisters, Juana Pomales, Norma Cruz, Yolanda (Juan) Hernandez; host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Modesto was preceded in death by his wife, Cherry Candelaria and brother, Bernardo Candelaria.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Modesto on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnam St., Lake Station.  Burial will follow at Mount Mercy/Ridgelawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday, December 11, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368, (219) 762-3013.  There will be additional visitation on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 until the time of service.
