Monterey Sanders (nee Harwell)

Age 81, of Portage passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at her daughter's home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 1, 1943, to the late Edwin and Hallie Harwell. Before Monterey became ill, she enjoyed painting and crocheting.  Monterey was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Monterey is survived by her two sons, William Todd (Anita) Sanders and Jerry M. Sanders; daughter, Pamela (Christopher) Shields; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Bill) Best, Brittany (James) Menard, Carolyn Sanders, Krystal Sanders, Jason (Heather) Sanders, Zachary Shields, Kaitlyn Shields and Miley Shields; numerous great grandchildren; two brothers, Michael (Sue) Harwell, and Steven Harwell; sister, Victoria (Richard) Modrzejewski; and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Sanders; father, Edwin Harwell and mother, Hallie (nee Whitmer) Harwell.

A graveside service for Monterey will be held Thursday, March 28 at 11:00 am directly at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens 8178 S. Cline Ave. Crown Point Indiana 46307.
