Nancy Jane Micknik, (nee Nawrocki), age 89, a resident of Portage passed away on Monday, October 10, 2011. She was born on August 24, 1922 in Gary, Indiana the daughter of Joseph and Helen Nawrocki. Nancy was married to Michael Micknik on June 27, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. Nancy attended St. Hedwig and Emerson Schools in Gary. Nancy was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, a member of the Saint Francis Sodality, and the Saint Hedwig's Woman's Club. Nancy enjoyed playing bingo, working in her flower gardens, and making beautiful crafts. Nancy was a loving mom and grandmother who showed great compassion to all. Nancy will be truly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

Nancy is survived by her loving family; Daughters Corinne (David) Grahovac, and Lana Micknik, Grandchildren Michael Kuiken, Layla (Jeff) Morgan, and Zigmund Harrell, Great-Grandchildren Nycole Kuiken, and Nicholas Kuiken, Brother Joseph Nawrocki, Special Niece Susan Welch, and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Michael Micknik, brothers Max, Casey, Walter, and Zigmund Nawrocki, and sister Eugenia Van Ness.

A visitation for Nancy Micknik will be held from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Rees Funeral Home – Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Avenue, Portage with a prayer service at 6:00 pm. Morning prayers will be offered at 9:30 am on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home followed by a mass at 10:00 am at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnum Street, Lake Station, with Father Eduardo Malagon, officiating.
