Nancy Progre, age 79, of Gary, IN passed away January 12, 2016. She was born and raised in Jamestown, New York and was a graduate of Jamestown High School.
Nancy retired from the Gary Public Library with 44 years of service. In retirement she was a library volunteer, and also served as a caregiver for two of her brothers. She enjoyed baking and reading, and was a great sports fan of her favorite Chicago teams: Bulls, Blackhawks and Sox. She will be greatly missed for her love and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomaia and Rafael Progre, three brothers, George, Robert and Louis Progre. Surviving are brother Alex Progre and sister Dorothy Progre, both of Gary; sister Patricia Mapp (James) of Madison, WI, niece Juliette Mapp (Dan Kaufman), and great nephew Luca Kaufman of Brooklyn, NY; nephew Timothy Mapp (Sarah Lariviere) and great nephew Laszlo Mapp of San Francisco CA and great niece Adele Daisy Mapp, of Paris, France and San Francisco, CA.
Private funeral services were held on January 18, 2016, with Chaplain Craig Forwalter officiating. The Rees Funeral Home in Portage was in charge of arrangements. In Nancy's memory, donations can be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, IN 46383.
