August 21, 1939 – December 15, 2023
Nancy L. Zazado (nee Vereb), age 84, of Portage, IN, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023.
Nancy was born on August 21, 1939 in Grindstone, PA to the late William and Irene (nee Totin) Vereb. She was a graduate of Red Stone Township High School, Class of 1957. Nancy married William C. Zazado, "Bill", on June 10, 1961 in Brownsville, PA and spent 44 wonderful years of marriage together until his passing in 2006. Nancy and Bill moved to Portage, IN in the early 1960s and became members of Nativity of Our Savior Catholic Church at its inception in the Portage Mall. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Sodality and had her weekly Monday Night BINGO.
Nancy worked for many years at Nativity, in both the church and school. She catered for weddings and funeral luncheons and cooked in the kitchen as the school chef. Nancy was a coordinator of the food booths offered during the Nativity Festivals each summer. Her pierogies, cabbage rolls, 'kraut and dumplings, and nut rolls became synonymous with each fish fry, festival, and Lenten season and were a highlight to many visitors. Nancy was a loving mother, grandmother, and a dear friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Nancy is survived by her daughter: Renae and "son"-in-law David Czilli; grandchildren: Collin Czilli and Nathaniel and Natasha Stearns; her beloved dog: Ringo; and a host of dear friends.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband: Bill; children: William Joseph Zazado and Veronica "Roni" Stearns.
