Nellie Bowman

Nellie Brown Bowman, age 95, of Portage, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017. She was born on January 11, 1922 in Casey County, Kentucky to the late Samuel and Mabel Brown. On September 12, 1941, Nellie married the love of her life, Clarence Bowman. She was a dedicated member of Bible Baptist Church in Portage. Nellie worked as the store manager for Crown Bakery for 22 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Michael) Foreman of Valparaiso; daughter-in-law, Peggy Bowman of Crown Point; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.

Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Bowman; son, Larry Bowman; daughter, Barbara Bowman; brothers, Frank, Ernest, Walter, and Roy Brown; step sister, Zeulah. Memorial contributions in Nellie's name may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 6659 West U.S. Highway 6, Portage, IN 46368.

A funeral service for Nellie will take place Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage. She will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
