Nellie F. Halcomb

Nellie F. Halcomb, age 70, a longtime resident of New Chicago passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011. She was born on March 17, 1941 in Harlen County, Kentucky, the daughter of Willie and Dorothy Reed. Nellie was married to James L. Halcomb, Sr. on January 6, 1962 in Lake Station. Nellie worked as a secretary at First Baptist Church of New Chicago. Nellie enjoyed reading, singing, was a member of the church choir, and played the piano for the junior church. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and a dear friend to all.

Nellie is survived by her loving family; son James (Tammy) Halcomb, Jr., New Chicago, daughter Sherry (Randy) St. Myers, Lake Station, grandchildren Joshua (Vanessa) Halcomb, Jory (fiancée Megumi) Mathews, Aaron Mathews, Trenton Halcomb, Rachel St. Myers, and Justin Halcomb, great-grandson Kylen Halcomb, brother Willie (Barb) Reed, Knox, sister Lucy Reed, New Chicago, good friends Bill and Betty Barrow, and other loving family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Halcomb, Sr., and her two brothers Jack and Joe Reed.

A visitation for Nellie Halcomb will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Rees Funeral Home – Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A funeral service for Nellie Halcomb will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 15, 2011 directly at the First Baptist Church of New Chicago, 401 Huber Boulevard, New Chicago, with Pastor Bill Barrow, officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Portage. Memorials in Nellie's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of New Chicago.
