Newlin "Bruce" Walters, age 64 of Hobart went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 16, 2011. He was born on November 4, 1947 in Gary, Indiana to the late Newlin and Sybil Walters. Bruce was a U.S. Marine and was awarded two Purple Hearts in Vietnam. He was a member of VFW Post 9323 in Lake Station. Bruce was very patriotic and deeply loved his country. He worked for Nipsco for 42 years as a lineman. He loved golfing on the Nipsco League.
He is survived by his loving wife and best frined of 40 years, Dawn Walters of Hobart, IN; loving daughter, Heather (James) Rush of Mellott, IN; 2 brothers, Norman (Marcia) Walters of Sebring, FL; James (Late Diane) Walters of Lake Station, IN; 1 sister, Linda McCullough of Hobart, IN; cherished grandson, Owen Rush, loving mother-in-law, Lois (late Eldon) Hanna of Hobart, IN; beloved brother-in-law, William Hanna of Hobart, IN and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marion Quesenbery, and Jean Rubino.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Bruce's honor may be made to the Salvation Army, Lake County Chapter, 8225 Columbia Ave., Munster, IN.
A special thank you to the Gary Fire Department, Station # 5, Medic 404, Methodist Hospital, Northwestern Medical Center and all who worked so hard to save Bruce.
Funeral services are Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage.
