Obituary

NICHOLAS GHEAJA, age 68, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 while surrounded by his loving family. He was a graduate of East Chicago Washington High School and then served in the US Marine Corps. Nick married Bonita Tinsley, the love of his life, on October 23, 1970 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Chicago. He was a bricklayer for 30 years at Inland Steel and 18 years at US Steel. Nick had a sailboat and thoroughly enjoyed his time out on the water. He was a good man and will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Nick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bonita (nee Tinsley); 4 children, Nicola (Anthony) Tavitas, Peter (Jodi) Gheaja, Jilliane (David) Sierkowski, Zachary Gheaja; 6 grandchildren, Karys Gheaja, Ava and Jett Gheaja, Henry, Arthur and Nora Sierkowski; sister, Jeannette Mills; nephews, Joe (Jinhi) Mills, Larry and Dan Mills and other loving family.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Geyer; brother-in-law, Don Mills; niece, Linda Greiney.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Nick will be Monday, July 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 568 E. 2nd Street, Hobart with Rev. Benjamin Ross officiating. Services will conclude at the church. Visitation will be Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart from 2:00-8:00 p.m. (219) 942-2109 or go online at www.reesfuneralhomes.com to extend condolences.
