Obituary

Nick Datsko, age 94, of Lake Station returned to his heavenly home Monday, March 31, 2014 where he was reunited with his beloved wife, Rosie and his parents. He was born on May 3, 1919 in Lake Station, Indiana to the late Nick and Josephine Datsko. Nick was full of life throughout his 94 years on this earth. He married the love of his life, Rosie Caesar on December 22, 1942. Nick served in the National Guard in 1939. Nick worked as a dye setter in the mills, where he retired. He retired after working for 48 years for Gary Screw and Bolt.  Nick had a passion for fishing, hunting and trapping. He loved the outdoors and wildlife. Every year he took pride in planting a big garden only to share his tomatoes with everyone. He loved polka music and dancing. Nick loved to go to every festival and picnic in the area. Nick went to the local Tap House almost every night to watch sports, hang out with his buddies and enjoy a beer. Above all else he loved his wife and children and cherished every moment he was able to spend with them.

He is survived by his daughter, Raffaella "Raffy" Caesar of Fort Lauderdale and his son, David Datsko of Lake Station; 1 brother, Michael Lubeck; 1 sister, Julie Koleff.

Nick was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Rosie; parents, Nick and Josephine Datsko; 2 brothers, Alex and Paul Datsko and 5 sisters, Emily Barger, Jenny Riley, Mary Osiel, Tina McCoy and Helen Bizik.

The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at the Tap House for always watching over him.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana with Father Peter Bodnar officiating. Nick will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home with a 7:00 pm rosary service with Father Frank D.
