Norma C. McCord, age 88, of Hobart passed away Sunday March 6, 2016 at her home. Norma was born June 3, 1927 in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee to the late Samuel and Ellen Elizabeth (Cheek) Carter. Norma was a homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and with her Church. Norma was a member of the Crown Point Church of Christ.
Norma is survived by her three children: Duane McCord of Portage, Janice Gambill of Hobart and Phyllis McCord of Chesterton; stepson, Ramon Romantico of Gary; six grandchildren: Jennifer McDaniel, Justin (Crystal) Tarnowski, Erika (Justin) Marr, Stacey Bryner, Erin Tarnowski and Julie (Victor) Braun; thirteen great grandchildren: Hannah McDaniel, Dustin McDaniel, Madison McDaniel, Emily McDaniel, Alexis Marr, Brianna Marr, Samantha Walters, Camden Marr, Chloe Marr, Jaylen Marr, Jakob Bryner, Matthew Bryner and Ava Wells; three brothers: John R. Carter, Paul Daniel (Deidra) Carter and George Willard Carter; special "Sister" Yvonne Blevins; and a host of relatives and friends.
Norma was preceded in death by two husbands: George McCord and Francisco Romantico; her parents, five brothers: Samuel, Robert, Joseph, Major and David Carter, and three sisters: Frances Mayes, Jean Lepley and Margaret Nicholson.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Thursday March 10, 2016 at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart, Indiana with minister Gerald Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Visitation is from 2:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
