Oberta Royster

Martha "Oberta" Royster, age 89, of Portage, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017. She was born on January 7, 1928 in Rives, Tennessee to the late John Walker and Martha Oberta (nee Hagler) Wherry. She was a long time member of Bible Baptist Church in Portage. In addition to her faith, Oberta loved to sew, quilt and cook. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister-in-law and friend.
Oberta is survived by her son, Kenneth Earl (Joyce) Royster; daughters, Katherine Elaine (Walter) Soposki and Karen Eileen (Daniel) Phillips; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Royster; her parents; daughter-in-law, Sandra Royster; seven brothers and two sisters.

A funeral service for Oberta will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 am with Pastor Donald Good Officiating at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery beside her husband. Visitation for Oberta will be Friday, February 17, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 pm also at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel.
