Owen Henry Held Jr.

Owen Henry Held, Jr., age 53, a longtime Portage resident, passed away Monday, June 23, 2026. He was born on November 3, 1972. Owen grew up in Hobart and attended Hobart High School, Class of 1991. He worked as a Concrete Finisher for Local 692. Owen was a member of the Portage VFW Auxiliary and enjoyed hanging out with his friends there. He loved his dogs, fishing, riding his motorcycle, barbecuing, cooking, and tinkering with things in the garage. Owen also loved to travel, especially to Mexico.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie Held (nee Perunko) of Portage, IN; two sons, Jonathan Held of Lake Station, IN; William Held of Portage, IN; father, Owen Henry (Darlene) Held, Sr., of TN; mother, Mary Fonner of South Haven, IN; sisters, Teresa Held of Valparaiso, IN; Samantha Olsen of Michigan City, IN; Paula Truth of Valparaiso, IN; brother, Jimmy (Alta Lewis) Fonner of Knox, IN; step-brother, Dave Wedding, step-sister, Dana (Shawn) Donley.

Funeral services are Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 4 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Chaplain Christopher Williams officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation is just prior to the service, Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart. (219) 942-2109.
