Owen D. "Doc" Stephens, age 78 of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024. He was born on October 8, 1945, in Hammond, Indiana to the late Dick and Irene Stephens. Owen was a Plumber and retired from the Plumber's local #210. For nine years he served as the business manager and financial secretary for the union. He was a lifelong member of the United Plumbers Association. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Michigan City and Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Crown Point. He was a talented craftsman and would help anyone in need. His greatest joy was his family and he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting activities. He will always be remembered for his benevolent nature.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Laura Stephens; son, Michael (Bonnie) Stephens; daughter, Cheryl Stephens; grandchildren, Jackson, Carter, Brayden, and Addison; sisters, Sharon Kay Stephens, Deborah Lynn Moses; niece, Danielle (Rob) Pace; great niece, Aiyanna Pace; longtime dear friend, Janice Scherer; and many loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Irene Stephens; brother, Ronald Stephens; father and mother-in-law, Bennie and Rose Procopio; nephews, Jason and Shannon Monnier; brother-in-law, Leon Procopio; and special family friend, Paul Scherer.
