Paul W. R. Patten Sr., age 62 of Valparaiso passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011. He was born on November 26, 1948 in Flat Rock, Illinois. Paul served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a lifelong Hobart and Valparaiso resident and had worked at Bethlehem Steel as a Coil Tester. Paul loved baseball, football and especially basketball and he was a die-hard Cubs fan. He loved Elvis, fishing, traveling, bowling, going to the movies and music trivia and he was a very spiritual man.
He is survived by 1 son, Paul Patten Jr. of Junction City, KS; 1 daughter, Shelley Patten of Portage, IN; 4 sisters, Anna Mae (Carl) Miller of Valparaiso, IN; Norma (Bert) Varga of Lake Station, IN; Judy (Wilbur) Charnetzky of Valparaiso, IN; Barbara (Jim) Smith of Lake Station, IN; 3 grandchildren, Ryne, Nathan, and Christian Patten, 1 sister-in-law, Frances (Bill) Renn of Loveland, CO; and 12 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Annabelle Patten.
Funeral services are Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.
