Peter D. Saims

Peter Douglas Saims "Doug", age 68 of Hobart passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Northwest Health Porter Hospital in Valparaiso. He was born on March 24, 1955, in Gary, Indiana to the late Peter and Virginia Saims. On September 20, 1986, he married Ida Cortazar in Gary, Indiana and together they raised two sons. He retired in 2010 from Local #460 Painters Union. Pete was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church. He will always be remembered as a hardworking man with a great sense of humor who had a passion for cars and motorcycles. Above all, he adored his family and cherished spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Saims; sons, Peter (Stephanie) Saims, Steven (Jami) Saims; grandchildren, Rocco and Aria Saims; sister-in-laws, Terri (Charlie) Hurst, Margie (Peter) Geittmann, Anita (Jack) Lathrop, Sharon Saims; brother-in-law, Rick Cortazar; two nephews, Douglas Saims and Tom Kellerman; and many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Virginia Saims; brother, Bernard Saims; and nephew, Phillip Saims.

Visitation for Peter will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, May 12, 2023 at 10:00 am at St. Bridget Catholic Church with prayers starting at the funeral home at 9:30 am.
