Peter R. Scheeringa, age 54, of Portage passed away Tuesday April 5, 2016 at Porter Regional Hospital with his family at his side. Peter was born September 14, 1961 in Hammond, Indiana to Edward Thomas Scheeringa and Ann (Kirts) Belongia. Peter was a retired outside sales representative for Great Lakes Peterbilt. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time on his boat. Peter was a wonderful husband, dedicated father and generous friend. He was also a beloved son, brother and son-in-law.
Peter is survived by his loving wife Carol of Portage; son David Scheeringa of Portage; mother Ann (James) Belongia of Valparaiso; six brothers and sisters, Ruth (Jerry) Modglin of Hebron, Marvin (Barb) Scheeringa of Florida, Martin (Anita) Scheeringa of Alaska, Debbie (Steve) Kinder of Arizona, William Scheeringa of Michigan City and Michael (Karen) Belongia of Indianapolis; his father and mother-in-law Willis and Carol Sue Bowman; his sister-in-law Canddi Scheeringa of Valparaiso; brother and sister-in-law Chris and Diane Bowman of Valparaiso ; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Edward and his brother Jeff Scheeringa.
A Celebration Luncheon of Peter's Life will be held from 12:00 to 3:00 pm Sunday April 10, 2016 at County Line Orchard 200 S. County Line Road, Hobart, Indiana 46342.
