Peter Szymanski, age 69, of Portage, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016. Peter was born on July 14, 1946 to the late Barney and Helen (nee Flesher) Szymanski. He graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1964. Peter served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He retired from Arcelor Mittal after 40 years of employment. He was a proud member of the union, USW Local 6787. He spent his time watching all the Chicago sports teams and enjoyed fishing. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Sara (Nee Gallon) Szymanski, of 47 years; daughter, Kristi (Jeff) Leucuta, Lisa Michel, Tammy (Scott) Dean; grandchildren, Shelby Leucuta, Ryan Leucuta, Hannah Michel, Drake Dean; brothers, Ronald (Gretna), Chuck, Duane; and sisters, Susie, Mary Ann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy, Bobby, and Danny.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Peter's honor, to Vietnam Veterans of America, 4301 Midlothian Turnpike #1, Crestwood, IL 60445.
