Phillip George Mesarch, age 88, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2026. He was born on August 9, 1938, in Gary, Indiana, to the late George and Mary Mesarch.
Phillip was a 1956 graduate of Tolleston High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in marketing from St. Joseph College in Rensselaer. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Phillip later retired from Miller Electric, where he worked as a purchasing agent.
Phillip enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and playing pool until he was no longer able to do so. Above all, he cherished his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and making memories together on family vacations.
Phillip is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara Mesarch; his four sons, Phillip J. (Karen) Mesarch of Portage, Indiana, Timothy (Dianne) Mesarch of Washington, D.C., Michael (Rebecca) Mesarch of Annapolis, Maryland, and Matthew (Tracey) Mesarch of Lisle, Illinois; his grandchildren, Allison (Tyler) Williams, Eric (Alyssa) Mesarch, Ab Mesarch, Lee Mesarch, and Andrew Mesarch; his great-grandchildren, Brody Williams, Penelope Williams, and Gemma Williams; and his special niece and nephews, Rebecca, Colt, and Joseph Gay. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Mesarch; his brother, Daniel Mesarch; and his sister, Georgianne Kula.
Memorial visitation for Phillip will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
