Phyllis L. Abbate (nee Van Arsdall), age 83, of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017. She was born on July 13, 1933 in Elgin, Illinois to the late Willis and Bernice Van Arsdall. On June 13, 1959, she married John Abbate, who preceded her in death in 2003. She was a dedicated housewife and an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bulls. Phyllis was a voracious reader and will always be remembered for her quick wit and loving smile.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Tom Wenzel) Abbate, Lisa (Mike) Kieffer, Gianina (Keith) Chard; grandchildren, Adrianna Chard, Ashley (Jake) Lashley, Jordan (fiancée, Lauren Perry) Chard; great granddaughter, Harper Lashley; several loving nieces and nephews; grandpuppy, Rizzo.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Bernice Van Arsdall; her husband, John Abbate; and sister, Jean Kerruish.

A funeral service for Phyllis will take place Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 7:00 pm at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart.
