Phyllis Jean Hurd, age 81, of Hobart and formerly of West Virginia passed away Sunday, April 18, 2021. She was born on July 19, 1939 in Welch, West Virginia to the late William and Cora Owens. She retired from School City of Hobart where she worked in maintenance. Phyllis had a passion for Bluegrass music and loved traveling with her husband who played in a Bluegrass band. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

She is survived by her son, Allen Baker; daughters, Kathy (Dan) Roberts, Barbara Baker, Teresa (Heriberto "Eddie") Torres, Geneva (Angel) Munguia; 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Elbert Hurd; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Cora Owens; her first husband, Willie Baker in 1986; second husband, Harold Hurd in 1990; daughter, Jennifer Lynn Baker; one grandson, Robert Allen Baker; and 4 sisters.

A funeral service for Phyllis will take place Friday, April 23, 2021 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart, IN 46342. She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
