Preston King, age 85, of Hobart, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 13, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 11, 1932 in Walnut Ridge, AR to the late Frank and Edna King. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from US Steel after 42 years. In his free time, he was a boy/cub scout leader for many years and served as a board member of his Homeowner's Association. Preston was a lifelong member of the Masons (32 degree) in addition to the Orak Shrine. On September 15, 1956, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann (Taylor) King, who survives.
Also surviving is his son, Preston (Robin) King; daughters, Diana (Rick) Francis, Debra (John) Broderick; grandchildren; Hays Francis, Matthew (Caitlyn) Francis, Daniel (Christina) King, Jonathan Broderick, Eric Broderick, Samantha King; 5 great grandchildren; brother, James King; sister, Joyce (Bob) Huber; family-like members who held a special place in his heart, Shane Skees and Billy Jean Grace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Edna King; son, Michael King; sisters, Wanda Tucker and Jeannette Flinn; brother, Frank King.
A funeral service for Preston will take place Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 9:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. He will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Visitation will be held Friday, June 16, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
