Ralph H Coleman, age 79 of Lake Station, passed away peacefully July 26, 2013. Ralph was born in Delaplaine, Arkansas and moved to Lake Station at age 18. He attained the rank of Sergeant First Class in the National Guard; was a retiree of US Steel Gary Works with 36 years of service; and was a lifetime member of the Izaak Walton League Spring Lake Chapter of Hobart. He was the "hot dog man" at the Saturday Izaak Walton Bingo for years and was an avid fisherman and reader. Ralph was a southern gentleman of many talents and will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his son Ralph Kevin (Nancy) Coleman of Whiting; sisters Barbara (Charles) Carson of Paris, TN; Shirley (Richard) Haywood of Lake Station, IN, who provided Ralph with much help and loving care; Betty (Jerry) Purcell of Harriman, TN; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews; special friends Al Kalos of Lake Station and Mary Wiluscz of Hobart; special helpful neighbors Debbie Fleming and Tony and Mary. Ralph was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Coleman (Bryan) Smith and parents Opal and Ralph L Coleman. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Lung Association or the charity of your choice, or take a kid fishing on a sunny day in Ralph's memory. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 10:00 am at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368 with Pastor Bob Burton officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Portage; In.
