Ralph J. McLaughlin age 89, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the William J. Riley Memorial House, Hospice of Calumet in Munster. He was born on May 5, 1929 to the late Leo and Helen (nee Ruth) McLaughlin in Lansing, Illinois. Ralph married the love of his life, Barbara Sikorski, 61 years ago on November 23, 1957 in Calumet City. He was a retired Draftsman at Inland Steel, and proudly served his country in the US Army. Ralph was a member of the American Legion Post 330. He was an active member of Our Lady of Knock Church and a member of the Hoover- Schrum Memorial School Board in Calumet City for 13 yrs; he worked on the Pool Board Association, and the Barrington Ridge Home Owners Association.
Ralph will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara McLaughlin; two sons, Tom McLaughlin and Jim McLaughlin (Heather) ; two daughters, Janet Torelli Torrado (René) and Jean Smith (Joe); six grandchildren, Christopher and Emily Smith, Mike, Anna, Katie and John McLaughlin; two sisters, Eileen Conces and Helen Mills.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert McLaughlin and sister, Sr. Dolores Marie McLaughlin.
In lieu of flowers donations in Ralph's memory to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls 1140 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607 or to the William J. Riley Memorial House, Hospice of Calumet 511 Otis Bowen Drive Munster, Indiana 46324 would be appreciated.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer vigil at Rees Funeral Home,Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road Hobart, Indiana A Catholic Mass will begin with 9:00 am prayers Friday, February 8, 2019 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel and then process to St Andrews the Apostle, 801 W. 73 rd Avenue, Merrillville, IN 46410.
