Randall E. Remus, age 69, of Hobart passed away Wednesday January 30, 2013 at Miller's Merry Manor in Hobart. He was born January 14, 1944 in Gary, Indiana to the late William H. and Dora E. (Craven) Remus. He was a co-owner and operator of Remus Farms. He was a 1962 graduate of River Forest High School, a five year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a former member of local union #150 Operating Engineers. He was a member of New Chicago American Legion Post #454, Hobart M.L. McClelland Lodge #357 F&AM, The Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and the Orak Shrine Temple of Michigan City. He also attended Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Barbara A. (Carlson) Remus of Hobart, two brothers Curtis A. (Barbara C.) Remus of Hobart, William H. Remus of Koontz Lake, four nephews, Jeffrey Burkhalter, Todd Burkhalter, Kurt M. Remus and Marc Remus, one niece Lisa Remus and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Catherine Sue Burkhalter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday February 4, 2013 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel 600 West Old Ridge Road with Rev. Charles R. Strietelmeier officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday February 3, 2013 with a 7:00 p.m. Masonic Memorial Service at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Shriner's Children Hospital.
